The necessity to use IT in harsh and extreme conditions has created machines known as rugged computers. These are computers that are able to perform in extreme temperatures, wet, windy and dusty conditions as well as environments with strong vibrations and other extreme environmental environs.
A rugged computer, such as a getac computer, may take any form just like a regular one. Rugged computers can be desk top units, laptops, wearable systems or any other form intended for a specific purpose. Rugged computers, however different they may be in design, share a common feature of being made out of magnesium alloy materials known for their extraordinary durability. Hard Disc Drives are shock mounted with protective material to withstand vibrations of daily use.
There are many uses for rugged or hardened computers. They are utilized extensively in moving vehicles, the vibration of which would cause regular computers to malfunction. The areas of use are military and police forces including use in unmanned vehicles. Rugged laptops are found in construction and emergency services such as ambulances. The uses of mobile computers include security, logistics, postal, courier, route accounting or local council. Understandably these machines are also used in science a lot.
